Legend:
"According to legend, the Reelfoot River, which gave its name to the lake, is said to be named for an Indian chief who had a deformed foot and was nick-named "Reelfoot" by settlers in the early 19th century. A Chickasaw legend states that the name originated from a prince of a Chickasaw tribe in habiting present West Tennessee, who was born with a deformed foot and walked with a rolling motion, so was nick-named Kolopin, meaning Reelfoot. When he became chief, Reelfoot determined to marry a Choctaw princess, but her father would not permit it. The Great Spirit warned Reelfoot that if he attempted to kidnap the maiden, his village and his people would be destroyed. Reelfoot disobeyed the Spirit, seized the princess by force, and carried her to Chickasaw territory, where he arranged a marriage ceremony.

In the middle of the ceremony, the Great Spirit stamped his foot in anger, causing the earth to quake, and the Father of the Waters raised the Mississippi River over its banks, inundating Reelfoot's homeland. The water flowed into the imprint left by the Spirit's foot, forming a beautiful lake beneath which Reelfoot, his bride, and his people lie buried. 5. GROUP DINNER - Friday, April 22-6:00 PM at Boyette's Dining Room 10 Boyette Rd, Tiptonville, TN 38079. CONTINGENT UPON COVID RESTRICTIONS AT THIS TIME. IMPORTANT: You will need to mark the appropriate box on the reservation form so that we know the number of people to make the reservation for.
6. Each guest will be responsible for their meal cost.
7. Astrophotography - Reelfoot Lake
   Weather permitting, 3CT Social Media Director, Jennifer Laverty will be leading a get-together for
   Astrophotography on Friday and Saturday evenings. This is for everyone, regardless of experience. If you have always wanted to try Astrophotography, but wanted some assistance, Jennifer can provide you with the basics to get you started. Please make sure to have a complete understanding of your camera and how to operate in manual mode and shoot in RAW.
   Location: Reelfoot Lake pier on TN-22, approximately one mile north of Boyette's Dining Room
   Time: 8:00 PM (Jennifer will be there starting at 7:30 PM (CDST)
   Necessary Equipment:
   • Camera that can shoot in Manual Mode and in RAW
   • Wide-angle lens
   • Tripod
   • Tripod weight - to stabilize and eliminate movement (this can be as simple as hanging your camera bag (with gear in it) from the hook on your tripod)
   • Shutter Release (or 2-second timer in camera)
   • Flashlight or Headlamp with red light
8. Saturday, April 23
   Sunrise Photography Sunrise is 6:12 AM on April 23. Plan to arrive at the location in time to set up equipment. The location is behind the Visitor's Center on the boardwalk. 
   Sunset Shoot is Grassy Island. Check the map for directions. We will be at the end of the road at the observation tower. Sunset is 7:40 pm on April 23rd. Plan to arrive at the location in time to set up your equipment.
